It’s final: Nagarjuna is K.D

It is K.D for Nagarjuna. After mulling over several titles like Rummy and Mosagadu, hero Nagarjuna and producer D Shiva Prasad Reddy has officially announced that K.D. has been selected as the title for their current movie. At a special press meet held today (November 30, 2009), hero Nagarjuna, producer Shiva Prasad Reddy, new director Kiran, and actor Ankur spoke about the film.

Several titles..and final winner..

“We have selected this title K.D as it sounds good and as well it suits to the character. Another reason is that we wanted to put Rummy first but as it came in the media, some producers registered on their banner. And later we thought of putting Mosagadu, as soon as I was told this to my producer, it came in websites, another producer registered it and demanded us Rs 14 Lakhs to confer the title to us. So Shiva Prasad Reddy and I decided not to discuss the title on the sets lest it leaks. That is how we are officially announcing the title K.D here,” Nagarjuna revealed the reason behind the title. It should be remembered that TC.com was the first to report about Mosagadu title and also about its release date in January.

No sentiments..

Nagarjuna also said that he never had sentiments like releasing the movie in December, etc. It is only media created as it sounds good. “I started the trend of releasing my movies in December just because long holidays could fetch good openings and collections. Now everyone is following and too many releases are happening, so I asked Shiva Prasad Reddy to release it in January and then he said that year 2010 is Silver Jubilee year for his banner. So we immediately fixed to release it on January 2010,” Nagarjuna clarified.

Con-man and K.D activities

“I play a guy who cheats or dons several getups in the movie. You will see novel characterization. Everyone is saying that I am looking fresh in the film and even when I saw final rushes, I felt the same. That was our original intention – to make and look different and fresh,” Nag explained. He also added that he does gambling and plays cards in the movie but it is not a profession that the character practices. “It is like many hobbies that I have in the film,” he added.

No Casino Royale..

When asked about whether the film is inspired by Casino Royale, he denied. “No. How could we make James Bond kind of film, man? It is nothing to do with that story except gambling is common feature. But again, ‘gambling’ is not main focus of K.D,” he cleared off the doubts.

Unique characterization and screenplay

The reason for accepting this movie is I want to do something different from the regular fare and come out of the current mould. That is when Kiran, who wrote dialogues for my TV production, Yuva, came up with this script which is

25 years..and not out

Producer Shiva Prasad Reddy felt very happy for releasing the movie in 25th year of his production house and also starting another film with Nag’s son next year. “It is really special feeling for me. Because exactly 25 years back, I met him; even after 25 years, we are still good friends. Never did we have differences all these years. I made my first movie, Sravana Sandhya with Shoban Babu, and it was a huge hit. In the 25thyear, I am releasing this movie and moreover I am staring Chaitu’s film next year which is more important to me. Chaitu has been with us and played with me since he’s 3 years old kid. It makes happy to produce a film with him as hero now,” Shiva Prasad Reddy said.

Director’s Take..

New director Kiran explained that K.D was not chosen just because other titles were not available but it also best suits to the theme of the story and goes with film. “These days, everyone is saying that their film is different from others. It may sound cliché but we say the same but hope that audiences would also feel the same,” Kiran said..

Slumdog actor as Chandra

Ankur who played as villain in Oscar Winning Slumgdog Millionaire is making debut in this film in Telugu and he thanked for the director and hero for giving him the chance. He said he plays the role of Chandra who hails from Guntur and makes a journey to Goa and returns to Hyderabad in the end.
