Yamaha VMax launched in India, is priced at Rs 20 lakh

With its 200bhp V4, the Yamaha VMax is a dream machine for enthusiasts

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. (IYM) has launched one of its most outrageously, brutally powerful motorcycles – the VMax – in India. The mighty VMax is fitted with an extraordinary 1,697cc V4 engine, which produces 200 horsepower and 167Nm of torque. As a result, the VMax can do the standing quarter-mile (400m) in less than 10 seconds and hits an electronically limited top speed of 220km/h.

‘India is one of the key markets for Yamaha. We are constantly shifting gears to transform the market from utility to pleasure and lifestyle. With the launch of all new VMax, Yamaha brings a new credo for bikers in India,’ says Yukimine Tsuji, CEO, India Yamaha Motor.

It’s a pity, then, that the Indian government is not willing to play along. With the massive duties levied on imported bikes, the VMax comes with a stratospheric price tag of Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. With this kind of pricing, only a tiny minority of biking enthusiasts in India can afford to buy bikes like the VMax. We must wait for the day when import duties will be done away with, for ‘ordinary’ people to be able to buy such amazing machines…

In the meanwhile, Yamaha has also launched new versions of its 150cc FZ16, FZ-S and Fazer bikes. You can check these out on the IYM website here
