Fiat recently unveiled the new Doblo, a multi-purpose van that’s available in people carrier and cargo versions. In its people carrier avatar, the Fiat Doblo can accommodate up to seven adults and their luggage. The Doblo Cargo offers a load area of up to 2.7sq.m., a payload of up to 1,000 kilos and with the 1.3-litre diesel engine option, a fuel consumption figure of around 20km/l.
The 2010-spec Fiat Doblo has been completely revamped in terms of style, engines and tech specs. Its modular interiors have been completely redesigned and now include folding and tilting seats that allow the best use of available space. One petrol engine (95bhp) and three Multijet diesel engines (90, 105 and 135 horsepower) are available, and Fiat later intends to launch a dual fuel (petrol and methane) engine as well. Stop-start systems are also available, for added fuel economy.
The new Fiat Doblo comes with state-of-the-art electronic safety devices like ABS, EBD, ESP and multiple airbags. Luxury accoutrements include an automatic climate control system, cruise control, parking sensors and GPS navigation system.
When it goes on sale in Europe in January 2010, the Doblo will be available in short- and long-wheelbase versions, in passenger and cargo trim. We believe the Doblo could be an excellent addition to Fiat’s India line-up as well. The Toyota Innova really needs some competition in this country, and for that, the Doblo definitely seems to have what it takes. We hope Fiat India gives it a thought!
