Toyota says it has solved the issue that forced the worldwide recall of about 2.5 million vehicles.
The problem has been accelerator pedals that can stick. Toyota says it has presented its remedy to federal regulators, and will update its employees Friday.
The recall involves eight different models. Nearly half of the affected vehicles are the Camry and Corolla/Matrix, which were two of the top four selling vehicles in the United States last year.
Toyota has already suspended the sale of those eight models, and it is not clear yet when the corrections will be made.
